This event provided a discussion forum for scientists, engineers, educators and students about the latest ideas and realizations in the a discussion forum for foundations, theory, models and applications for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research encompassing disciplines of computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, and biomedicine. Topics covered included: New computational techniques and methods in machine learning; data mining; text analysis; pattern recognition; data integration; genomics and evolution; next generation sequencing data; protein and RNA structure; protein function and proteomics; medical informatics and translational bioinformatics; computational systems biology; modelling and simulation and their application in life science domain, biomedicine and biomedical engineering.
- Interdisciplinary Workshop on Geospatial Computing
- November 20-21, 2014
- Colin Robertson of the MS2Discovery Institute, together with his colleagues at the Universities of Guelph and Waterloo, organized the Interdisciplinary Workshop on Geospatial Computing, held in The Museum, Downtown Kitchener. Academics had the opportunity to mobilize knowledge, gain exposure to cutting-edge software tools, and meet new industry partners for research collaboration and commercialization opportunities. Industry had the opportunity to learn about applied research and tool development within academia, meet potential academic and other industry clients, and meet potential hires with skills in this important interdisciplinary area. The workshop featured the MS2Discovery speaker, Dr. Carson Farmer from City University of New York. Professor Farmer is the associate director of the Center for Advanced Research of Spatial Information (CARSI). His research falls under the banner of "complexity in urban systems" and encompasses research on a wide range of topics in urban and regional analysis, including emergence and the multi-scale nature of commuting, transportation modeling, and local labour markets.
